Snow Angel Program

What is the Snow Angels Program?  It is a program designed to assist older and disabled residents with snow removal from sidewalks and driveways after a winter storm.   The Borough’s Snow Angel Program will pair these residents with nearby neighbors who volunteer to assist them.

The program will run from December 1 through the last snowfall of the season.

This program will foster stronger community relationships and make our sidewalks and driveways safer for those who are outside during the winter weather, such as, postal carriers, firefighters, police officers, delivery persons, and neighbors.

Volunteering

You can sign up to be a volunteer in the Snow Angels Program by submitting the Snow Angels Volunteer Form by one of the following ways:

o    The form is available at the Borough Building.
o    Complete the online Snow Angels Volunteer Form and submit it electronically.
o    Download the Snow Angels Volunteer Form, submit it to the Borough Building
      or by email to dplatt@franklinparkborough.us.

Things to know when signing up as a Snow Angel volunteer:

You will be assigned to a neighbor in need who lives in your general vicinity. •    We will contact you via email with confirmation details when you have been
      assigned a neighbor.
Your assignment depends on whether there is a neighbor who needs help near
you unless you are willing to travel a short distance.  You may be assigned
immediately, or later during the winter.  Neighbors could request help
      throughout the winter season.
We ask that you help your neighbor as soon as you are able and within 24 hours
of the end of the snow event.
Sometimes more than one neighbor who needs help lives in your
neighborhood/plan.  If you are willing to help shovel and salt for more than one
neighbor, please let us know on your registration form.
We will notify you if a shovel and salt are available at the residence in need.
You can coordinate more details with your resident.
You must understand that shoveling snow is strenuous exercise and you must be
physically able to perform these duties in cold weather.

Requesting Assistance

Requirements:  Age 60 or older, have a physical disability, and be a resident of Franklin Park

You can sign up to receive assistance in the Snow Angels Program by submitting the Snow Angels Request Form by one of the following ways:

o    The form is available at the Borough Building.
o    Complete the online Snow Angels Request Form and submit it electronically.
o    Download the Snow Angels Request Form, submit it to the Borough Building or
      by email to dplatt@franklinparkborough.us.

Things to know when signing up to have a Snow Angel:

Do you have alternative snow removal resources (family, friends)?
You are not guaranteed assistance. Service depends on if there is a Snow Angel
who has signed up near you.
If you are matched with a volunteer, we will notify you by email or phone call.
Registration is on a rolling basis, so a Snow Angel may be available later in the
     season.
You may not receive immediate help during a snowfall. Please give your
volunteer a reasonable amount of time to assist you.  We recommend allowing
24-hours after a snow event concludes.  Your Snow Angel may have work, family,
or personal matters that prevent them from immediately shoveling and salting
     your sidewalk or driveway.
You should have a shovel and salt available and located outside your house for
     your Snow Angel to use.
You can coordinate more details with your volunteer.
