During the morning you will get to train and learn how your local fire companies operate when they get the call to help in their municipalities. At this event you will get to use tools and learn different techniques that the fire service uses. Snacks and lunch afterwards will be provided. Sign up on our website for a morning of unique experiences that you won’t get anywhere else. Open to anyone over the age of 14. snow angels

Snow Angels is a volunteer program designed to assist elderly and disabled residents with snow removal from sidewalks and driveways after a winter storm.

The Borough is looking for volunteers willing to be a Snow Angel. Snow Angels will then be paired with a nearby resident in need.

If you are an elderly or disabled resident in need of a Snow Angel or would like to volunteer to be a Snow Angel, contact Donna Platt at 412-364-4115, Ext. 302 or by email at dplatt@franklinparkborough.us.

This is the third year of this program. If you were on the list last year as a volunteer or requiring assistance, please confirm with Donna Platt if you would like to continue volunteering or receiving assistance this year.

If you know of a neighbor that could use the help, please volunteer to be their "Angel".

MESSAGE FROM:

CODE ENFORCEMENT AND PUBLIC WORKS

Residents should be aware of the following:

  1. Residents should take advantage of the November chipping service and plan to clear summer growth of trees and shrubs away from public cartways and sidewalks this fall.
    • The full width of the sidewalk including 80” in height  (the standard residential passage door height) should remain clear of vegetation in all weather conditions, including snow.
  2. Residents should inspect their sidewalks for broken and misaligned sidewalk segments that may raise and create unsafe conditions when the ground freezes.

  3. Resident should trim off tree branches reaching out over the paved road surface to assure adequate clearance for Public Works equipment.
  • Tree branches extending over any part of the paved public travel path should be trimmed to a “warm weather height” of at least 16 feet from the road surface to allow for branches being weighed down with winter snow decreasing the required minimum road clearance height.
    • When branches weighed down with snow get struck it not only can damage the truck, but it can also seriously injure or kill a tree already weighted down from snow.  This is especially important for:
      • Allowing emergency vehicles such as ladder trucks to pass without damaging windows, equipment, lights, etc. mounted on the trucks.
      • Allowing the raised dump bed of our salt trucks to pass without breaking off the tree branches.
