POLICE NEWS

We invite all community members to attend the Franklin Park Borough Council Meeting on Tuesday, July 16th at 8:00 PM, where we will celebrate a significant milestone in our police department's commitment to excellence. The Pennsylvania Law Enforcement Accreditation Program is a rigorous, voluntary process that evaluates agencies against established best practices in policing. Achieving accreditation is a mark of professional distinction that demonstrates our department's adherence to the highest standards in law enforcement.

This accomplishment would not have been possible without the steadfast support of Mayor O’Keefe and Borough Council, who recognized the importance of this endeavor and provided the necessary resources to make it a reality. Their unwavering commitment has helped position Franklin Park as a leader in modern, accountable, and community-focused policing. We are especially proud to share that Franklin Park is the first police department in the North Hills to receive this distinguished recognition.

We are honored to welcome Chief Jim Adams, Accreditation Program Coordinator for the Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Association (PCPA), who will formally present the official accreditation plaque and certificate at the meeting. Please join us for this momentous occasion and help us celebrate a proud chapter in our community’s history.

Honoring Chief Joseph Hotnich: Join Us This National Night Out

The Franklin Park Police Department warmly invites all residents to a special event recognizing a foundational figure in our community’s history — Chief Joseph Hotnich, the borough’s first Chief of Police.

Chief Hotnich began his service in the 1950s when Franklin Park was still known as Franklin Township. In 1963, he became our very first Chief of Police and served until his untimely passing in 1966. During his short but impactful tenure, Chief Hotnich laid the groundwork for the professional, dedicated department we know today.

 Bench Dedication Ceremony

In honor of Chief Hotnich’s legacy and lasting contributions, a memorial bench will be dedicated in his name during National Night Out festivities.

Date: Monday, August 5
Location: Franklin Park Municipal Building
                 2344 West Ingomar Road
                 Pittsburgh, PA 15237
Time: 1900 hours (7:00 PM)

This is a heartfelt opportunity for the public to come together, reflect on our borough’s history, and celebrate the leaders who helped shape our community.

We hope you’ll join us in paying tribute to Chief Hotnich’s enduring legacy.
