Mailboxes vs. Snowplows

The policy of the Borough is to replace a mailbox if it is physically struck by a Borough snowplow.  If snow thrown from a plow knocks over a mailbox, the replacement of the box and/or post is at the homeowner's expense.

Cold Weather

Winter Reminders

The Borough’s snow removal priorities are major or arterial roadways, followed by school bus routes, neighborhood roads and finally cul-de-sacs.

Reminders:

• Ordinance No. 202-13 prohibits parking of vehicles on
Borough roads between the hours of 2:00 am and

6:00 am. and/or during snow removal times, periods of snowfall, ice accumulation and       inclement weather.
• Do not shovel or plow snow into the street. Pile snow in your yard area.

• Under Pennsylvania law, the owner of any property abutting a sidewalk has a duty to

maintain that sidewalk in a safe manner. In Franklin Park, that means clearing snow

within 24 hours of a snow event.

Yard Waste/Leaf Bag Drop Off Site Permit

The Yard Waste Drop Off Site at Blueberry Hill Park will reopen on or about March 1, 2023, weather permitting.  A new permit must be acquired each year.  You can currently apply for a 2023 permit which would be for both the Yard Waste and Leaf Bag Drop Off sites.  Although the Leaf Bag Drop Off Site was not formally closed due to its proximity to the road, please refrain from placing leaf bags at the site during the winter months.  This site is NOT to be used as an alternative to the Yard Waste Drop Off Site. You can apply for a yard waste permit online at our website.  Permits will be issued mid-February.

Christmas trees that do not make the curbside collection can be taken to Blueberry Hill Park, and placed next to the pile of wood chips (look for appropriate signage).  DO NOT place your tree at the Yard Waste or Leaf Bag Drop Off Sites.

Both sites are under video surveillance.  Violators will be prosecuted.

Spring Roadside Litter Cleanup
Saturday, April 29th – McAleer Road

The Franklin Park Environmental Advisory Council will be leading a roadside litter cleanup event on Saturday, April 29th at 10AM.  We are looking for people who want to make a big difference in cleaning up litter in Franklin Park.

Last spring, we cleaned up a ½ mile stretch along Nicholson Road and removed 31 bags of trash and many car parts.  This year we will tackle a ½ mile section along McAleer Road.

Police traffic control, safety vests, gloves, and bags will be provided. The crew will meet at the Blueberry Hill Park Activity Center parking lot.

Want to volunteer and be a “litter getter?” Send an e-mail to dplatt@franklinparkborough.us or call the Borough office at 412-364-4115, extension 302 to let us know you will attend.

Family Sponsorships Available

As you know, 2023 is our Bicentennial Anniversary with celebratory events scheduled throughout the year that residents can participate in.  We have several historic sites in the Borough that are important to our history such as the log cabin in Blueberry Hill Park and the log cabin and barn on property acquired on Big Sewickley Creek Road.  If your family is interested in preserving these historic sites, consider becoming a Family Sponsor for $200.  As a Family Sponsor your family's name will be recognized on the Borough's website.  Other sponsorship levels are also available.  We wanted to give residents an opportunity to be involved in maintaining our history for future generations. For more information view the Bicentennial brochure or check out our Bicentennial website page!
